Overview
Searching for friends, or new people has never been easier. JomSocial allows you two types of search, fast and simple quick search if you know exactly who you want to find, or complex, advanced search where user can build a combination of Custom Profile Fields to search against their values.
Both search options are enabled by default and can not be disabled in any configuration option
Simple, Fast Search
If you know exact name or username of the person you are looking for, you can simply write it in a quick search box at the frontpage of community
You can also access the quick search option from any Friends related page, where you will have an additional option to search only user which have uploaded avatar.
Advanced Search
Unlike simple search, advanced search allows user to create a criteria for searching based on the custom profile fields values.
Every field that is set as searchable in the custom profile fields configuration will be available in Advanced Search
You should also take a look at some of the options available in Back End configuration
Back End Options
Advanced Search options can be accessed by going into JomSocial Configuration window and are located under Site pane
Available options in these settings
- Allow guests to perform advanced search - If et to Yes, non registered visitors will be able to utilize search facility
- Email Searching - Chose the option to allow, disallow or respect user privacy option while searching by email
