From Joomla 2.5.8 forward, you might encounter a database problem which refers to the assets table when you browse some of the JomSocial pages.

Note: This is NOT a JomSocial-specific error as we do not use that table at all.

Joomla has already acknowledged and addressed this issue in an article documentation article covering the fix for it.
Also, Joomla Forums has an answer for the issue.
